Breakfast at Victorian House Bed and Breakfast
I’m starting my review of Victorian House Bed and Breakfast with what I think is its best attribute. The breakfasts we had here were absolutely top notch. It’s almost worth staying here just so for these meals alone. In fact, they were some of my favorite meals in a town where everything we ate was amazing.
We had the pleasure of trying three breakfasts at Victorian House Bed and Breakfast, and each one was incredible. Our first breakfast started with a sort of French toast casserole topped with a sweet, sticky blueberry syrup. It wasn’t just regular French toast, though. It had a texture and flavor sort of like a banana bread pudding. The texture was a bit unique, but once this French toast hit my taste buds, I couldn’t get enough of it.
Our second meal was a Spanish-style scrambled egg casserole with sausage and salsa. It was our least favorite of the three breakfasts, but it was still pretty good. Our dessert that came after was nothing short of amazing. It was a coffee cake that was perfectly crusty and sweet. It reminded me of some of the great cakes we had in Germany and Austria.
On our last morning, we were treated yet again to an excellent breakfast. This time around it was a breakfast sandwich (technically?) with a delicious biscuit in hollandaise sauce. Besides simply looking impressive, it was super tasty, too. The French toast was only marginally better due to personal taste. Michelle preferred this sandwich.
The dining room where breakfast is held is equally nice. It’s a medium-sized room with six tables set for two. Each setting has old fashioned glassware and china. Around the room is an antique china cabinet along with several other decorative touches to give it a turn-of-the-century feel. It adds a touch of elegance to the fantastic meals

Victorian House Bed and Breakfast’s Location
Victorian House Bed and Breakfast is in a good spot just a few minutes’ walk to the main touristy part of St Augustine. This spot also means you’re close to everything while also being tucked away in a quiet corner of Old Town.
The only downside of Victorian House Bed and Breakfast – and one of its only negatives overall – is that because of its location in the middle of Old Town, it has no on-site parking. It has a small gravel lot where you can park while checking in and dropping your luggage off. After that, you have to park about a half mile away.
Still, it could be worse. The walk to and from the parking lot is pretty pleasant, with gardens and old homes to admire along the way. Nonetheless, if you have mobility issues, it can be difficult, especially in the heat.
It’s also worth noting that the streets to get to Victorian House Bed and Breakfast and the parking lot are very narrow. They’re drivable, but you’ll have to be wary with a big truck or SUV. We spent each night on our balcony watching large cars struggle to get through to our personal amusement.
Our Room at Victorian House Bed and Breakfast
Our room at Victorian House Bed and Breakfast was nice, if a bit dated. Nevertheless, it did exactly what we needed, which was to give us a big, comfortable bed, a cool temperature to recover from Florida’s heat, quiet nights, space to store our things, a fridge for to keep drinks cold, and a balcony to enjoy at our leisure (with those cold drinks).
Our room had a large wooden dresser with a relatively new TV on top that was never turned on. We also had two nightstands with drawers for storage and one closet, that we also never ended up using. The room was large enough that even with keeping everything loosely organized around our luggage, it didn’t feel particularly cluttered.
One other nice feature our room had was a fireplace. However, we never used this so I can’t speak much about how it worked or what it added to the room.
The bathroom was perhaps the only odd part of the room due to its layout. There was a toilet with a sink in its own private area, but then, the jacuzzi shower was situated inside the main room in a corner by the bed. It wasn’t a problem for us. Some people might not like having the shower be part of the main room, though.
The only other negatives of the room also have to do with the tub. First, the step to into the tub is huge. I’m just about 6-feet tall with long legs, and even for me it was a bit of an adventure getting in out with wet feet. This is definitely a consideration for people with mobility concerns.
Second, the tub was a bit dated, too. The tub worked fine and was clean, but it was definitely a bit old. This fact is worth noting if you want a room that is perfectly modern.
For an extra fee, you can book a room with either a balcony or a living room space. We opted for the balcony. The balcony has a ceiling fan (very nice to have with Florida’s weather) and lighting if you want to sit outside at night to read. It lacks any grand views, but it does overlook the garden. It’s also in a nice spot where horsedrawn carriages and tourist trolleys go by at night.

The Grounds of Victorian House Bed and Breakfast
If not for the excellent breakfasts, the exterior parts of Victorian House Bed and Breakfast would have been my favorite part. Now, part of this comes with an asterisk, as a large portion of the grounds belong to Victorian House’s sister bed and breakfast, Casa de Solana across the road.
Victorian House Bed and Breakfast’s grounds are relatively small, but they are quaint. The main building has a small porch with a few rocking chairs where you can watch passersby throughout the day. We spent each of our mornings after breakfast with tea and coffee sitting out here relaxing before the day began.
Next to the porch is a tiny garden with a couple small benches set beside a small fountain. It’s a nice feature if you’re just sitting to kill time for a couple minutes, but it’s not nice for much else, especially since it has no shade.
The garden across the road at Casa de Solana Bed and Breakfast is a wholly different story. Just walking into it is a relaxing experience. It has a few different sections with their own decorative flairs. Fountains highlight each area with seating throughout for people to sit and relax with a glass of wine or cup of coffee. If St Augustine didn’t have so much to see, I could have spent our entire trip here.

Some Extras for Guests
Included in your room are a few small but thoughtful extras that come in handy if you come back for a mid-afternoon nap or if you want a treat at the end of the day.
In the afternoon, the sitting area in Victorian House Bed and Breakfast’s main building has coffee and cookies for guests to enjoy. The cookies during our stay were a soft oatmeal base with chocolate chips and a caramel glaze. They were delightful.
My only complaint is it would have been nice to have tea available since I’m not a coffee drinker, but that’s a pretty minor objection.
That objection is made even more minor by the fact that they also offer free wine for guests. It’s nothing terribly fancy, but still, wine is wine. When we were visiting, they had small individual bottles of cabernet sauvignon and pinot grigio. While the brand was fairly basic (I think it was Sutter Home, but I can’t quite remember), it was still a nice touch to include any wine at all.
They also have bottles of water and cans of soda available for guests who need something other than coffee or wine.
It was quite nice to be able to come back to the room and grab a cookie and glass of wine to enjoy out on our balcony or in the garden. I wouldn’t have minded a tea, but I digress…

Victorian House Bed and Breakfast’s Cost
So far everything sounds pretty great, right? But it’s time to talk about costs. Victorian House Bed and Breakfast is a little pricey if you want a room like we had with a balcony, but you can get a very reasonably priced standard room for as low as $159 plus taxes.
Now, that room is fairly basic, coming with only a queen bed and a small private bathroom with shower. However, considering you still get access to everything else that comes with a stay at Victorian House Bed and Breakfast – plus all of St Augustine right out your room’s door – I think it’s worth it.
Larger room or rooms with extra features like our balcony jump up in price quite a bit, coming in at over $209 plus taxes. It’s a bit expensive, but if you want a splurge to get away for a relaxing weekend or for a special occasion, it’s worth it.
Prices listed above reflect direct booking from Victorian House Bed and Breakfast’s website. On their page, it says best price available. Prices on Booking.com look comparable except for their cheapest room, the SeaMist, which as far as I can tell (it’s not 100% clear that the cheapest room listed is the SeaMist) is more expensive on Booking.com. Make sure to research prices for the time of your visit for the best deal.
